Thank you for another successful HVP Fall Fest! We're always excited about this special day that brings our on-line community together for some "off-line" fun, all while helping to support the great charity, St. John Bosco Child & Family Services. After skipping a year in 2008, it felt good to bring the festival back.
Our deep thanks to Rob Snyder for coordinating the wonderful musicians who shared their time and talents today: The Broomhead/Snyder Project, an experimental, improvising duo; and Crazy Feet, one of the Hudson Valley's premiere five-piece swing dance bands.
Our gratitude to all of the individuals and businesses who donated goods and services to our event. Please tell them thank you again for us the next time you see them! (List below). Thank you to the Town of Rosendale for the terrific venue. Thank you to charity founder Renee Fillette for her work with us leading up to the event, as well as stopping by to help out and meet and chat with folks at the Fall Fest. We are especially grateful for the hard work of our Hudson Valley Parents member-volunteers, families, and friends who made today possible, including Davi, Nora, Callie, Abby, Karsten, Laszlo, Declan, and Quinn!
All proceeds from the day's festivities went to the local charity, St. John Bosco Child & Family Services, and we were able to make a donation to them of $848.90. St. John Bosco Child & Family Services is a Hudson Valley based, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of foster care children who have special needs. They aim to restore the joy and vitality of childhood with the underlying belief that every child can be helped. The agency was created in response to the unmet needs of scores of chldren and families living in crisis in our immediate region. Their programs are unique, covering all aspects of the children's individual needs for emotional support, care, encouragement, reliable routine, structure, respect, and physical safety. The agency's homes are a place of comfort and growth and are located in Wallkill, New Paltz, and Walden, NY. Their hope is that every child will grow up in a warm and stable family life.
Fall Fest '09 was also the special occasion for site owners Mike and Erica to unveil the new logo for HudsonValleyParents.com, an image of three evergreens framed by a yellow sun. After years of ideas, discussion, planning, and sketching on napkins over dinner, the HVP logo journey finally came to fruition. Designed by Mike and drawn by Linda Brook Guenther, the image is intended to represent this incredible and unique HVP community.
The three trees represent the members' families, such as two adults with one child, one adult with two children, one adult with one child and a friend or relative, etc.; as well as the friendship, business, and networking links and connections made through HVP. The evergreen style was chosen as a common tree to the Hudson Valley region, as well as for its enduring qualities - that no matter what the season, the family is the family.
The sun represents one of Erica's favorite parenting quotes by Peggy O'Mara, the dawn of a new day symbolizing new ideas, new parenting pathways, as well as personal growth: "It is our very innocence as parents, our freshness and inexperience, that redeems us. With each new family, nature has another chance. Another chance for happy accidents that can change the course of history. Another chance for amateurs to do something no one else has ever done before. Another chance for genius."
Mike also conceived of the accompanying motto, "Families rooted in Community" and did the digital renderings of the logo.
HudsonValleyParents.com is proud to partner with Kathy Preston and Gnorasaurus.com for HVP logo gear, including t-shirts, onesies, and tote bags.
Our penny social was the biggest one we've ever had, with a total of 56 amazing prizes. Mike's streamlined operations for this activity made it easier than ever for folks to participate. The bake sale was also whoppingly delicious success!
Thank you again to everyone, both new and "seasoned" members, for coming out to get together and support a great cause!
