"We had such a great time!!" and "Can't wait 'til the next one!!" were
among the many enthusiastic comments shared with me after our Hudson
Valley Parents Second Annual Fall Fest '07.
This year's HVP Fall Fest took place at the Rosendale Recreation Center on Sunday, September 30, 2007. We appreciated the talents of so many HVP member families for our entertainment, activities, bake sale, and penny social! We had a great line-up of musicians and puppeteers who performed throughout the day, a variety of wonderful children's activities including pumpkin painting, face painting, coloring, bubbles, cupcake decorating, and origami. The playground right next to the Rec Ctr. was another great outlet for playtime, too! Our penny social offered prizes from throughout the Hudson Valley, and we are grateful to the individuals and businesses who supported this venture - please help us thank them when you shop there! (See list below.)
All in all, a fantastic time! We met new friends, reconnected with folks we haven't seen in a while, celebrated miracle milestones for babies and their parents, and watched so many children dance and play.
At the end of the day, we were able to make a charitable gift of $1,400 to FAMILY, an agency who makes a difference to so many families every single day. For more than thirty-five years, FAMILY has been a leader locally and in New York State, in Ulster County and beyond, developing programming and supports for people in need. FAMILY’s shelters, emergency food pantries, court advocates, counseling and case management services, hotlines, and child care supports, all work together to help people achieve the changes they seek. HVP Fall Fest began its tradition last October, 2006. Mike and I wanted to plan a family-friendly event that would enable our on-line community to meet and get to know each other "off-line" and, while we were at it, to raise money for a local charity.
Our deep thanks to the wonderful artists who shared their time and talents for HVP Fall Fest '07. Our gratitude to all of the individuals and businesses who donated goods and services to our event. Thank you to the Town of Rosendale for the terrific venue. We are grateful for the hard work of our volunteers today, including Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority; high school students Julie, Sarah, and Zoe; and our own Hudson Valley Parents families and friends, especially the amazing HVP Fall Fest Planning Team: Betsy, Kathy, Michelle, Nora, Raissa, Jodi, Jill, Mike, Jessica, Jenn M., Jenn V., and Loretta, with additional help from Donna, Ami, Naja, Amy, Caitlin, and sweet Callie.
Now, Mike and I personally thank all of you......
We were blown away by your surprise presentation for us at the end of Fall Fest. We had no idea about any of it (many of you seem especially proud of that), and I was speechless (rare!). We were so touched by your thoughtful generosity.
You celebrated us in such a holistic way, nourishing the mind (dedicating a brick in our honor at Elting Library with the engraving "MIKE & ERICA, IT TAKES A VALLEY. LOVE, HVP"), body (a gift certificate to one of our favorite restaurants, The Village Tearoom), and spirit (giving us a couple of Dwight Schrute-head stress balls as well
as donating a gift in our name to a charity we love and regularly
support, Heifer International*).
Here's what your Heifer Project card said:
In Honor of Erica & Mike Chase-Salerno ~ You are proof that one spark can light a valley! Thank you for giving us Hudson Valley Parents! Love, The Parents ~ A gift of love has been given in your name by Hudson Valley Parents ~ May this gift of Chickens and Rabbits bring you joy as it brings hope and nourishment to a family in need.
*Some of you may not be familiar with Heifer International....here's some background:
Heifer International is a nonprofit that alleviates hunger, poverty and environmental degradation through gifts of livestock and training. These animals provide food, draft power and generate income for families. Since 1944, Heifer has helped more than 4.5 million families in 125 countries become self--reliant. Each family "passes on the gift" by giving one or more of its animal's offspring to another family in need. www.heifer.org
THANK YOU for all that you do every day to help make this community (both on-line and off-line) such a special place.
